The 10,000sf custom home occupies a prominent corner lot within the “Historic District” on the west side of the Arroyo in Pasadena. It is a remodel and addition to a house built in 1948, to the design of Paul Williams. The original house was designed in an eclectic English Gothic / American Colonial style. The most notable feature was a wood paneled sitting room with a library mezzanine crowned by a lofty wood beamed cathedral ceiling. This grand space forms the heart of the redeveloped house and provides design cues for the surrounding new and remodeled spaces. The house is aligned with the splaying street frontage and zoned with the more public social and service spaces in the center. A more private bedroom wing to the east and a dance studio / garage wing to the west. The addition includes subterranean entertainment spaces and wine cellar with tasting room. The house and landscaped grounds have been designed to graciously accommodate larger scale functions and have catering facilities commensurate with this.
